B Model Lineage

Tom Pittman recently forwarded a newsletter from the Taylorcraft Foundation and we gleaned the following information on the 'B' model of our beloved Taylorcraft.

"First of course was the Model A,

then came the Type Certificate #696:

for the first Model “B” :

Model BC , 8-24-38 , 50 hp, Gross Wt. 1100 lbs.

Model BC-65, 7-22-39, 65 hp, Gross Wt.1100 lbs.,ser# 1407 & up at 1150 lbs.

BC12-65 , 4-7-41, 65 hp, Gross Wt. 1200 lbs., added elevator trim & 15 rib wing.

BC12-D , 11-23-46, 65 hp, Gross Wt. 1200 lbs., numerous changes.

BC12-D1 , 9-10-46. 65 hp,Gross Wt. 1200 lbs. Known as “Ace”

BC12D-85 , 9-30-48, 85 hp, Gross Wt. 1280 lbs. Ser# 12001 & up

BC12D-4-85 , 7-13-49, 85 hp, Gross Wt. 1280 lbs., ser# 4-13010 and up

All of the above are on the 696 TC.,with Continental engines ; the B models with Lycoming engine & Franklin engines are ATC 699 & 700."..........source The Taylorcraft Foundation
